"What government would be engaged in literally taking body parts from live people and selling them?" said Shawn Steel, US Republican National Committee (RNC) member, former chair of the California Republican Party, when interviewed by NTD reporter Holly Kellum.
On August 2, 2019, the Republican National Committee unanimously passed a resolution, condemning the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for forced organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners and other prisoners of conscience.
The sponsor of this resolution was Shawn Steel. Steel said that
he first heard about the CCP's forced organ harvesting a few years ago in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, during a trip. At that time, he didn't believe it.
He said the recent announcement of its findings by a London-based Independent People's Tribunal prompted him to sponsor this resolution.
"This is something that is so unforgivable, it will be remembered throughout human history as one of the lowest point in humanity."
On June 17, 2019, the Independent People’s Tribunal delivered its final verdict: “Forced organ harvesting has been committed for years throughout China on a significant scale and that Falun Gong practitioners have been one – and probably the main - source of organ supply.”
Sir Geoffrey·Nice QC, the chair of the Tribunal read the final verdict at the hearing. The jury of the court unanimously agreed that there was conclusive evidence showing that the CCP committed crimes against humanity, including murder and extermination.
Sir Geoffrey Nice previously led the prosecution at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
He said the CCP ordered doctors to brutally kill innocent people simply because they pursued truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance— because they were Falun Gong practitioners. Addressing the court and audience, Sir Geoffrey Nice said that in the past 10 months, the Tribunal held hearings in December 2018 and April 2019. Over 50 witnesses including refugees, former inmates of Chinese prisons, doctors, and investigators testified to tribunal chair Sir Nice, a panel of six experts, and the tribunal's legal counsel.
The Tribunal reached the conclusion: “Forced organ harvesting has been committed for years throughout China on a significant scale and that Falun Gong practitioners have been one – and probably the main – source of organ supply,” and noted that “forced organ harvesting is of unmatched wickedness even compared – on a death for death basis – with the killings by mass crimes committed in the last century.”
Furthermore, “The Tribunal has had no evidence that the significant infrastructure associated with China’s transplantation industry has been dismantled and absent a satisfactory explanation as to the source of readily available organs concludes that forced organ harvesting continues till today.”
In the interview with NTD, Steel said he hoped the whole world would know of the CCP’s crime of forced organ harvesting. He said they (the RNC) hope the world would know about this ongoing human rights problem. This is one of the worst crimes committed in the history of the world.
Steel said without the White House’s support, this resolution would not have be approved. In the annual report of international religious freedom that was released in June this year, the Trump administration condemned the CCP for forced organ harvesting.
At a US State Department press conference, Sam Brownback, the United States Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom, said publicly to journalists around the world,
“We share reports—again, that others make — that Chinese authorities have subjected prisoners of conscience, including Falun Gong, Uyghurs, Tibetan Buddhists, and underground Christians, to forcible organ harvesting.”
